Resumen

The research integrates geophysical and geotechnical methods to characterize the subsurface for the design of the Arín Dam, located in Laguna Arín, Ancash region, Peru, founded on sandstone formations of medium to high permeability. These rock types, due to their heterogeneity and fracturing, pose significant challenges for the stability and watertightness of the structure. Non-destructive geophysical techniques, such as Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES), Seismic Refraction surveys, and Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW), were implemented, complemented by diamond drilling, Standard Penetration Tests (SPT), Lefranc permeability tests, and test pits. This integration enabled the development of a correlated and validated geological–geotechnical model. In addition, the stratigraphy was accurately defined, geotechnical parameters were estimated from geophysical data, and critical zones were identified for consideration in the design and foundation treatment works. The study reinforces the application of multidisciplinary approaches in hydraulic engineering works, with specific relevance to complex Andean environments that demand technically adapted and efficient solutions.
