Resumen

From conception of fractals by Mandelbrot, fractal geometry can be used as descriptive science applicable to geology. Fractal analysis, the determination of the fractal dimension of a structure, and other related quantities is a tool that reveals useful if it knows how to use. With a fractal analysis can discriminate and characterize phenomena from the classical view were considered unclassified. Fractals publications related earth sciences still maintain moderate growth unlike other sciences in which they have an exponential evolution. In nature, geological systems are essentially heterogeneous, there is a piece of rock that is exactly like another very close, and Fractal Geometry has been helpful to be able to measure time by the fractal dimension and develop models to reproduce complex systems by simply repeating a nonlinear process. Fractals have been applied to various geological problems could mention cases of oil and mineral reserves. If physical and chemical processes exhibit a scale invariant, then the fractal distribution should be applicable. Because the geology presents several cases of scale-invariant processes, fractals are useful because they provide a way of quantifying these processes scale invariant. Fractals we could help analyze and predict environmental conditions, earthquakes and volcanoes. They may be helpful in characterizing mineral geometric scaling. They may also help in measuring borders and coasts. Knowing the concepts of fractals, they would be a new alternative in solving geological problems.
