The financial system comprises a set of financial institutions, banks, and companies authorized by the Superintendence of Banking and Insurance, which initially provided their financial services entirely in person but are now moving towards digitalization. Mobile banking emerged to reduce effort and time while offering greater security, allowing all banking transactions to be carried out via web platforms or mobile applications. Similarly, digital wallets have emerged, improving ease of use and access, further reducing time and effort while maintaining the same level of security. This service enables banking transactions exclusively through mobile phones, without needing cards or cash, at any time. However, as of 2024 and across Latin America, Peru has only 57% of its population banked [10], and 52% use digital wallets [21], considering the total population. Furthermore, for the economically active population of 26 million inhabitants [25], this represents 60%, highlighting a remaining adoption gap. Along these lines, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) notes that the adoption of digital wallets in Peru is significantly lower than in other Latin American countries [25]. It also suggests that promoting the use of digital wallets would bring the following benefits to users: entry into the banking world through financial inclusion, the ability to generate a credit history, new functionalities for users, adding more value, and enabling users to receive quality services. For this reason, the BCRP has led the massification of digital payments between digital wallets through interoperability; however, it still believes that new use cases should be proposed to encourage the adoption of digital wallets [24]. Therefore, this study aims to identify the adoption factors among current digital wallet users using the UTAUT technology adoption model, and a design proposal will be developed based on these significant identified factors.
