Evaluación geotécnica y geofísica para la factibilidad de un depósito de relaves afectada por la presencia de antiguas labores mineras, en base a estudios geotécnicos y geofísicos

Abstract

The present study explores the feasibility of constructing a tailings dam on the foundations of old mining workings called "Rinconada," located in the Huayllay district, Pasco province, Pasco department. The main objective of this research is to determine whether the study area is an alternative for storing new mining tailings dams. Based on this, geological, geotechnical, and geophysical investigations were conducted, analyzing and evaluating each geotechnical unit comprising the overlying soil and subsoil. In the study area, geotechnical investigations included drilling with platform logging, in-situ testing to determine soil parameters, permeability testing, soil sample selection for laboratory shipment, and piezometer installation and monitoring. In addition, geological remediation was performed on existing old mining workings. Regarding geophysical investigations, seismic refraction tests, multichannel MAM/MASW array analysis, and electrical tomography testing were performed. The processing, analysis of field data, and interpretation of the results indicate favorable geotechnical conditions of the rock mass for the foundation, supported by the geomechanical characterization of the rock mass (RQD, RMR, GSI) and the geotechnical characterization of the soil types identified in the project area
