El nivel de competencia del mercado de insumos del programa del vaso de leche en Lima Metropolitana del 2008 al 2018

Abstract

The present research work determined that, for the inputs evaporated milk and cereal flakes of the Programa del Vaso de Leche in Metropolitan Lima, the concentration of suppliers was found at a Very High level from 2008 to 2018, according to the scale of the Herfindahl-Hirschman index. In the case of evaporated milk, it was observed that the growth rate of its average price in the Programa del Vaso de Leche was twice higher than in wholesale markets. Through the construction of a Vector Autoregression model and impulse-response functions, the existence of correlation and positive impact between the variables concentration of suppliers and average price for both inputs was determined. In the case of milk evaporated, Granger causality was also determined. Therefore, in addition to the fact that the market for supplies of the Programa del Vaso de Leche in Metropolitan Lima was highly concentrated from 2008 to 2018, empirical evidence was obtained that the price of its supplies was influenced by its low supply, damaging in this way the efficiency of the expenditure made by the State in this social program.
